New Zealand Fly Fishing FAQs
Do I need a fishing licence?
Yes a licence is required for fishing in NZ. You can purchase a 24 hour or entire season licence through the NZ Fish and Game website.
What gear do I need?
Cadence can provide everything you need but you can check the gear section of this page for more information if you'd like to bring your own.
What if the weather is bad on the day of my booking?
Mother nature has always has a vote! We'll do our best to find a suitable location for your booking but it really depends on whether it is a half, whole or multiday booking. Occasionally a booking may need to be cancelled due to inclement weather but we always discuss the options with our guests. If we do need to cancel., we offer a full refund.
Do you provide transport?
Yes, our guide will pick you up and drive you to a chosen river and return you at the end of the day. Guests are also welcome to take their own transport to a pre-arranged meeting point.
What about safety?
Safety is always our number one priority. We have a comprehensive health and safety plan which considers the risks of fly fishing in New Zealand. Your guide will discuss these with you at the start of your trip and ensure you are safe and comfortable throughout your time on the water. You will be required to sign a form acknowledging the risks involved.
What is your cancellation policy?
We generally take short notice bookings and a 10% non-refundable deposit is required. If you can't make it to your scheduled booking, we ask for 48 hours notice. Cancellations within 48 hours of the booking will incur a 50% fee.
Am I guaranteed to catch a fish?
Fly fishing is challenging and there are many factors at play. Cadence offers the opportunity to catch a wild New Zealand brown or rainbow trout. Whether you hook a fish or not, we guarantee an amazing day on the water!
